SOFINEX mission statement

The Société de Financement de l’Exportation et de l’Internationalisation des Entreprises Wallonnes (SOFINEX in abbreviated form) is a joint-stock company created in September 2003 at the instigation of the Walloon regional government in Belgium. It is the result of an operational collaboration between AWEX and SOWALFIN, which provide it with their respective competences in matters of foreign commerce and finance.

Its mission is to encourage in particular exports and investments abroad by Walloon businesses, as far as these have positive effects on economic activity and employment in the Walloon region.

Generally, SOFINEX can offer assistance to Walloon businesses in any project of an international nature.

 

Means

SOFINEX’s intervention on behalf of businesses aims to meet the financial needs linked to international operations, in such a way as to overcome obstacles to their completion. SOFINEX’s support may be requested as much in short-term commercial operations as within the framework of long-term projects.
In order to do this, SOFINEX has a panoply of financial tools at its disposal: bank guarantees, financing, equity participations, subsidies, etc. Currently, the total financial means of SOFINEX, in all their forms, are in the region of €30 million.

 

SOFINEX’s methods of intervention on behalf of businesses comprise two elements:

1. Participation in the financing of business requirements within the framework of foreign export or investment contracts;

2. Soutien des exportations by means of financial products comparable to subsidies.

Through these two methods of intervention, SOFINEX aims to become the sole counterpart to Walloon businesses (mainly small and medium-sized businesses) in the field of financing international operations, by offering them an appropriate range of public services and financial tools.
